Go Where I've Never Been? Doesn't Sound Smart.

Once upon a time, I was browsing in a gift shop in small town, Nova Scotia. I was out, randomly driving around the province, going no where in particular. Turning down roads I have never been and seeing where it went.

I went around a display, at this shop, and stopped dead in my tracks. I had this immediate visceral reaction to what I was looking at. Without thought I blurted out, in an overly-loud manner, “That’s my sign!!!”

Startled, the saleswoman turned towards me and I knew she thought I was a weirdo. I defiantly didn’t care and told her that I was buying that sign.

“My Most Favourite Thing is to Go Where I’ve Never Been” it says on a light blue rustic wood background.

At first glance, one might think it was talking about geography. Randomly driving around a province would suggest that it is what it meant to me but it is truly so much more. It is about always wanting to evolve and the only way to do that is to explore what is different.  Different ideas, philosophies and ways of thinking. Trying new things. Trying to do old things in new ways. Not being or doing the same old, same old.

It is a philosophy that was brought into this store. We are drawn to artisans who don’t make things in the same way as everyone else. They don’t even like to copy themselves. Always coming up with new designs and trying new techniques. Pushing their limits.

They fit in and move smoothly around our ‘Ever-Revolving Door of Different’ we strive to have here.

Because our most favourite thing is to go where we have never been.
